The Cologne Carnival (German: Kölner Karneval) is an annual celebration held in Cologne, Germany. It officially kicks off during the "fifth season" or carnival season at precisely 11 minutes past 11 on the 11th day of the 11th month, November. However, the spirited festivities temporarily pause during the Advent and Christmas season and resume in full swing after January 6th, known as Epiphany, heralding the arrival of the New Year.

Roland Kaiser is a German Schlager ( Deutsche Schlager ) singer. He is one of Germany's most successful Schlager singers. In 1980, he took part in the West German Eurovision Song Contest audition but did not win.
In the same year, Roland Kaiser had his biggest chart success to date with "Santa Maria" (by Oliver Onions/Guido & Maurizio De Angelis), which spent six weeks at the top of the West German charts.
