The next year, he caught the attention of artist manager Andrew Gertler, which led to a record deal with the label. Mendes released his self-titled debut EP in 2014, followed by his debut studio album Handwritten in 2015. "Handwriting" premiered at number one on the US Billboard 200. Mendes became one of five artists to do so before the age of 18. The single "Stitches" peaked at number one in the United Kingdom and entered the top ten in the USA and Canada.
